Aradell (aka "Della") White was elected County Superintendent of Schools for Garfield County, Colorado in 1896. She served for a second term. During her second term White began to work from home instead of the county office set aside for the Superintendent. White's relocation to her home may have been due to the fact that she was a widow with four children ages four to eight years old. The Garfield County Commissioners challenged White's expense account and the amount of time she spent at her job, and refused to pay her for submitted expenses. White took the case to the state supreme court, where she lost. By 1899 White had remarried and was known as Aradell White McSewegan.
