Jappa Mason was the County Superintendent of Schools for Nowata County, Oklahoma in 1911. Mason later served as the principal of the State Agricultural College at Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. There is a historic marker om her grave in Caney, Kansas, noting her educational accomplishments. The marker notes that Mason helped write school laws in Oklahma and was a foe of corruption in political office.
