Ella A. Gleason was a candidate for the Boston School Committee in 1903. She was endorsed by the Independent Women Voters organization, but did not win a seat. Gleason was active in temprance causes. In 1902 Gleason was one of the petitioners to the Massachusetts legislature seeking to prohibit the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquor.
