Rose M. Palmer ran for the New York State Assembly as the Democratic candidate from the 23rd District in 1918. On August 13, 1918, the New York Tribune reported that, she was an independent Democratic candidate from a district, in which Socialists outnumbered Democrats seven to one. Her friends, the Tribune continued to report, were optimistic about Palmer's prospects, because she had Americanism and suffrage on her platform. In addition, Palmer's Socialist opponent, Charles Solomon was "not in harmony with his party on the question of woman suffrage and women's rights in general." In addition to her political activities, Palmer was also a practicing lawyer.
