Carrie E. Money was the Republican candidate for County Superintendent of Schools for Otero County, Colorado in 1904. She started campaigning for the office by June of that year.  In late October Money spoke before the local Republican women's club, trying to rouse women's support for the local and national ticket. She was successful in her race  against the Democratic candidate, Lizzie S. Sebree. Money won election to fill the remaining term of office incumbent, Mary E. Lyon who died in late September of 1904.   Two years later Money ran again successfuly, winning with 51% of the vote against two other women candidates. Money ran for a third term in 1908, still as the Republican candidate.  Despite being known for her background, experience, and involvement with state educational institutions, Money last to her male Democratic rival. As her husband died in 1907 Money was the sole breadwinner of her family by 1908. The local school board hired her as the head of the history department at the Rocky Ford High School. By 1911 Money had moved to Bismark, North Dakota to take charge of the local high school English department.
