Mabel Curran was nominated as the Democratic candidate for County Superintendent of Schools for County, Colorado in 1908. She had been a school teacher in the area. During the 1908 campaign Curran published a letter to the local newspapers countering some rumors about her economic status. She lost the race to the incumbent, Republican Minnie C. Merriam. Two years later Curran again faced Merriam and a Socialist opponent. Curran won the race by 114 votes. She ran for another term in office in 1912 and easily beat her Republican opponent, Lulu B. McCorkle. Curran remained in office until 1914.
