Mary Farrell was the Democratic Party candidate for City Clerk in Aspen, Ptikin County, Colorado in 1909. She was elected and ran again in 1911 on the Democratic ticket. Farrell served in the office until early 1915. A Democratic party stalwart, Farrell was a county delegate to the party state convention in 1906. By 1912 she was a "Committeeman" for her precinct in Aspen for the general election. Her devotion to the Democrats was rewarded when she was appointed Aspen Postmistress in 1915. By 1918 Farrell listed herself in correspondence and announcements as Postmaster or P.M. Farrell ended her political career as the Democratic candidate for County Superintendent of Schools in 1920.
Farrell, an immigrant from Ireland, moved to Aspen as a young woman. She began participating in local Catholic charities and other city charitable organizations. After being widowed, she was hired as newspaper reporter by the Aspen Daily Times in 1905. Three years later Farrell was appointed the newspaper's city editor, a position she held until 1911 when she resigned.
In 1923 Farrell moved to California to live with her adult daughter. She might have also left Colorado to avoid participating in several lawsuits broght against her, and others, over title in various Pitkin County silver mines. Farrell passed away in 1954.
