As part of the Republican controlled town of Lakeside, Jefferson County, Colorado, Maria Roberts was selected as a delegate to a party convention in 1908. That year she was also appointed as a judge of elections. In 1909 Roberts was a Republican party candidate for Town Trustee, but as the entire ticket was defeated she also lost her race.
