Edith F. Coons was elected as the County Assessor for Kern County, California in 1912. As Assessor Coons was empowered to sell land for back taxes. In 1916 a U.S. District Court Judge issued an injunction to stop Coons from selling land in dispute and claimed by the Cherokee Development Association.
