Irwin, Hattie
Hattie Irwin was elected as County Superintendent of Schools for Lake County, California in 1906.  She served in the office through 1914.  In 1909 when the Wright Election Law was passed practically barring women in the state from running for school offices, Irwin wrote to the State Superintendent of Education asking for his opinion on the matter. Irwin was among the first women in Lake County to register to vote when California women gained full suffrage in 1911.
