Daisy M. Barteau was the Socialist Party candidate for California State Assembly from the seventy-nineth district (San Diego), in 1916.  She received 158 votes in the primary election. Barteau trained as a linotype operator and in 1910 Barteau had filed a patent for a "wave engine". She was also the corresponding secretary for the San Diego branch of the Woman's International Label League Union.
