From collection Candidates
Belle Norman was the Citizens' Democratic party candidate for St. Louis, Missouri School Board in 1897. She did not win the race. As part of the club, the Woman's Bryan League, Norman successfully worked on making women in the state eligible to sit on school boards. The WBL then campaigned for Norman to become the first woman candidate in the city. Through their efforts she received over 10,000 votes. Norman later was involved with the Direct Legislation League of St. Louis.
