Mittie A. Demen was elected County Superintendent of Garrard County, Kentucky in 1905. She served for one term. Demen was the second woman elected to the position in the county. Her successor was also female. Demen, like several other superintendents, supported laws for compulsory schooling and reform of the school trustee system.
