Pearl Hindman was elected County Superintendent of Schools for Adair County, Kentucky in 1909. Hindman was the second woman to serve in the position in Adair County. She served for at least one term. In 1910 Hindman was the apellee in a court case brought by a teacher in Adair County, over payment of wages. The court case listed the duties of county superintendents in Kentucky by 1910. Before being elected to office, Hindman had been a candidate for Kentucky State Librarian, in 1904. This wa an office to which candidates were elected by members of the legislature. Hindman received only a few votes, and lost out to another woman.
