Lillie Irwin was a candidate for County Superintentendent of Schools in Hardin County, Kentucky in 1890. Issues surrounding racial integration of the schools were raised during the campaign. Irwin, a white candidate, was said to favor "mixed schools," by her opponents. A supporter of Irwin's claimed that this was false.
