Sarah B. Maclay, the Populist candidate, campaigned for County Superintendent of Schools in Missoula, Montana in 1892. She lost to the Democratic incumbent, Harriet Hord. In 1894 Maclay ran again and was elected to the office. Maclay ran for re-election two years later on a Fusion, Republican and Populist tickets, but lost to Hord.
