Helen C. Osterhout was a candidate for School Director in Ridgway, Elk County, Pennsylvania in 1874.  She received only 6 votes. Osterhout was one of three women that ran in the same race, the first year that women in the state could be elected to school offices. Her husband William C. Osterhout, a local politician also ran in the race for school director that year.
