From collection Candidates
Eva M. Hunter was elected the County Superintendent of Schools for Park County Montana in 1888, as a Democrat. She won again in 1889 after Montana statehood. In 1892 Hunter was the Prohibition Party candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction, in Montana. While Hunter polled far ahead of other party candidates in the race, receiving over 4,000 votes, she still did not win the race. Hunter ran for Park County Superintendent again in 1894, this time as a Populist, but lost to the Republican candidate, Annie McAnnelley. After she was widowed, Hunter returned to school and became a licensed physician in 1901.
