Eliza Burt Gamble
Eliza Burt Gamble was the Socialist Party candidate for University Regent in Michigan in 1909.  She did not win the race.  Gamble was a well known writer, using evolutionary theory to support rights for women.  She developed her theories through three books The Evolution of Woman (1894), The God-Idea of the Ancients (1897), and The Sexes in Science and History (1916).  As an early supporter, Gamble spoke at woman suffrage meetings in Michigan.
