Elizabeth Walker was elected as Mesa County (Colorado) Superintendent of Schools in 1895. After marriage and as Elizabeth Walker Hinton, a Democrat, she won election to the office in 1914, 1916, 1918, and 1920. In 1916 she defeated the Republican candidate, Nannie Forry.
