In 1916 Martha Barklage of Leadville was successful in her campaign for Lake County (Colorado) Superintendent of Schools. She won against the Republican and Progressive party incumbent, Marion V. Crispell. Barklage appears to have married the year after her election and was then listed as Martha Barklage Johnson. She was born in 1892.
