From collection Candidates
In 1916 Josephine B. Mays, the Republican candidate, campaigned for the office of Teller County, Colorado Superintendent of Schools. She lost to Mrs. Nellie Slusher, a Democrat, who served the 1917-1918 term of office. It is possible that Mays had held the position in 1915-1916 (see Paterson's Directory). Mays was born in 1888 in Colorado. The 1910 U.S. Census lists her as single.
