Kate Tupper Galpin was nominated for the office of County Superintendent in Los Angeles County, California in 1894. The women of the county nominated Galpin by petition, but her campaign was unsuccessful. Galpin was an educator, having taught at the University of Nevada. She was involved in the suffrage movement in southern California and women's efforts to expand involvement in civic affairs and politics. Galpin's sister Mila Tupper Maynard also ran for office in Los Angeles. Maynard was a Socialist Party candidate for City Council in 1913. She did not win the race.
