Ida Hamilton of Laramie County, Wyoming was one of the first women in the territory to run for political office in 1870. Hamilton ran for the office of County Commissioner. She received one vote. Hamilton was originally from Ireland. Another woman living in the same house Nellie (or Nelline?) Hastings ran unsuccessfully for County Sheriff in the same year. Hamilton has been accused of owning a house of prostitution in Laramie.
