In 1914 Minnie Lahm Harding, a Democrat, was elected to a six year term as Colorado University Regent. As a young woman she taught school. She was known in her home of Fremont County, Colorado for starting the community's first kindergarten. Dedicated to education, in 1902 she started the Minnie L. Harding Educational Loan Fund to assist women in higher education by offering interest free loans (the fund continues its work in the 21st century). She married a Colorado businessman (with whom she had two children), and worked with him. She was also a very active club woman concerned with civic improvement, education and, during World War I, service on behalf of the war effort. Harding was born in Ohio in 1857. Her father served as a member of the U. S. House of Representatives.
