Mary L. Trescott was born in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. She taught school in the 1880s and 1890s, and was admitted to the bar in Luzerne, County in 1895. She married and ran for a judgeship sometime before 1906. In 1911 she was elected president of the Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania school board.
