Addie Hayden was elected County Recorder of Warren county, Iowa, in 1880. Hayden ran on the Independent ticket and won by a majority of 397 votes. In 1880 the Iowa General Assembly had extended the right for women to be elected to the position of County Recorder. Addie Hayden was one of the first women in the state to be elected under the new act. Hayden served in the position until the end of 1887 and was elected four times to the office
