Duniway, Abigail Scott

Abigail Scott Duniway supported the suffrage movement in the state of Oregon for many years. Her newspaper, The New Northwest was a crucial aspect of support for the woman's movement in the state for over 16 years. Duniway was nominated for U.S. President of the Equal Rights party in 1884, but turned down the nomination. Belva A. Lockwood was the party's nominee in that race.

Bauer, Julia H.

Julia H. Bauer was the Republican candidate, for County Superintendent of Schools for Walla Walla County, Washington in 1884. She received thirty-nine percent of the votes cast and lost to her Democratic opponent.  Bauer was perhaps the first Jewish woman to run for elected office in Washington.
