Kitty Ostermeyer, a Populist was elected County Superintendent of Schools in Ravalli County, Montana in 1896. Two years later she ran for re-election endorsed by the Silver Republicans and Peoples party, but lost to the Democratic candidate. Ostermeyer ran successfully in 1900 as the Peoples party candidate.
